Sleeping Beauty

Choreography by Ingun Bjørnsgaard

In Sleeping Beauty (2018 remake), seven young DanseFOT talents meet three professional dancers, and together recreate the critically acclaimed piece.

Sleeping Beauty was only 16 years old when she stabbed herself and fell into a deep centennial sleep. It is said that a divination came true. The reason for this may have been female rivalry.

It is hard to paint a picture of who she was, as there is only material available about her surroundings. From this perspective, she can be interpreted as passive, like a woman totally without self-will. Other sources claim she had to flee into another state to rid herself of something, to make herself capable. We present a shortened version of this choreography.

Sleeping Beauty was originally made in 1994 and won the Critics Award in 1995.
