On the 18th of December 2017 Guro Nagelhus Schia was awarded a grant of 17.5 million kroners from Akershus Fylke Kommune (regional municipality) to establish a new Norwegian national dance company.
Founder and Artistic Director Guro Nagelhus Schia, along with Assistant Artistic Director Vebjørn Sundby have a long track record as dancers, choreographers and actors. Over the past 18 years Guro and Vebjørn have toured nationally and internationally, working with some of Norway and the globe’s most acclaimed contemporary dance companies, including: Carte Blanche, Eastman and the Norwegian National Ballet, to name but a few.
The company’s mission is to create, produce and promote dance productions of the highest quality on an international scale. The company will invite national and international choreographers- both renowned masters, as well as emerging innovative artists to create new works.
The company will work across a broad spectrum within the contemporary dance sector; from niche site specific dance works, to pioneering interdisciplinary productions with leaders from the digital technology field.
The company will also deliver a vast array of education and outreach projects, intensive training and apprentice schemes. In addition to our funding from Akershus Fylke Kommune, the company was awarded a generous gift of 4.5 million kroners from Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.
Given the scale and breadth of productions the company will deliver, hence the name- Nagelhus Schia Productions.
Nagelhus Schia Productions is Bærum Kulturhus associate dance company. Together we will stimulate the development of culture in the municipality of Bærum and Akershus.
Nagelhus Schia Productions will be a cultural beacon in Eastern Norway for the dissemination of innovative and challenging performing arts. The company will contribute to strengthening the professional dance sector, and lift Norway higher up on the cultural map.
